Do I have to have a contract to run a listing?
No, you can participate as much or as little as you wish. You will continue to receive emails every week prompting you to submit copy if you wish to participate. Although the cost is discounted if you sign a contract, you may choose to not sign and run as many or as few listings as you wish. To help you decide, you might want to compare your spending on ads this past season to what you would spend next season with the new contracts. Call David or Marijane at 212-925-5821 for information about number of ads run and total amount spent on ads this past season.
If we sign the 20x contract, do we have to run every other week, or can we choose whichever 20 ads we want?
Because of requests from members, the 20x contract will now be totally flexible. You can run your 20 listings on any dates throughout the season that you choose. This will allow you to focus your listings around your exhibition schedule, your participation in art fairs, etc. You will continue to receive emails every week prompting you to submit copy if you wish to participate that week.
Is the full-page format being re-designed?
No, the essential elements for your listing will remain the same: a large rectangular block with gallery name, address, phone, and web address, plus the listing in two font sizes. However, the ADAA spots for Art Show, Collectors' Forum, etc. will fluctuate in size and placement depending on the number of members participating in the ad in a given week.
My gallery has two locations (or other subdivisions). Can we run some ads from one and some from the other, with our listing appearing in the correct respective neighborhood?
Yes, provided we can bill all the ads to a single business at a single address. Once you have a contract you can adjust your listings to whichever location you like and the listing will appear in the right neighborhood section for that week.
Will the weekly email blasts of the listings be continued?
Yes, all listings appearing in the Times ad will be emailed to ADAA's mailing list each week. This is included in the cost of the ad.
Why are the costs higher for galleries who only want to run a listing every now and then?
It is true that this year’s percentage increase is highest for those who participate less frequently and don't sign a contract. However, the increase of $465 (from $735 for this year's small weekly to $1200 for next year's full-page weekly) covers the significantly bigger listing with more lines, larger type and longer character counts. The discounted contract rates allow those members who want to participate more frequently to do so.
Can we wait to see how our Fall season shapes up and sign a contract then?
Yes, you can run at the no-contract level as much as you want and then sign a contract later, though you'll be paying more for those pre-contract ads. For example, if you run 5 ads, then sign-up for the 20x contract, you will only need to run 15 more to fulfill the contract, but the $200 extra you paid per pre-contract ad will not be refundable. However, we encourage you to sign a contract now so that we can ensure participation is high enough for these new larger ads to proceed as planned.
When will we know if this new plan is going ahead or not?
Mid-summer. If enough members sign-up for 40x and 20x contracts, we will proceed and all contract holders will receive an invoice for their first month of ads. If we do not have sufficient numbers of members, then we will do a new mailing to the membership announcing the return to the old weekly/monthly set-up, with the weeklies starting in September and the monthlies starting in October.
