In 2015 we consulted on Jenny Holzer’s contribution to the New York City AIDS Memorial. The artist created the work as a setting of Walt Whitman’s verse in granite, spiraling out from the center to cover the ground of the memorial site. We were asked to apply our fine typesetting skills to the poem itself. We finessed Holzer’s setting of the words to appear evenly spaced without breaking any letters across the individual granite pavers.
