At almost five hundred pages, Walter De Maria: The Object, the Action, the Aesthetic Feeling is the first comprehensive survey of the artist’s entire, exceptionally diverse oeuvre. Designing this book had all the puzzle-like requirements of a catalogue raisonné with the additional challenge of presenting monumental land art, unrealized works, and conceptual pieces in a way that is easily understood by the reader. Writings about the artworks by Elizabeth Childress and Michael Childress do the heavy lifting for individual works, while contributions from Donna De Salvo, Michael Govan, Christine Mehring, Lars Nittve, and Dagny Corcoran contextualize De Maria in a broader way.
